Building Blocks to Health
Building Blocks to Health
Depression makes it hard to get out of bed, change out of clothes, show up for others, let alone yourself. We have to start somewhere and with small tasks. Begin to plan out your day and take small steps. Make achievable goals and implement tasks you enjoy in your daily routine.
Lets implement helpful activities on the calendar, even if the calendar is in your mind. Rate your mood throughout the day after doing activities to see how/if/where/when it fluctuates. Tracking your mood record allows you to reflect on what “feels good” and what doesn’t. Implement more of the “feel good” activities in your week.
Often times people are waiting to begin activation after motivation, however, activation comes before motivation.
Smile even if you don’t feel like it, research shows that smiling can help people feel better.
In your calendar implement: Take a walk, do some gentle stretching, take a bath, brush your teeth, read a book, talk to a friend, enjoy the outdoors, play with your children, garden, dance!
Don’t overthink it, a task whether small or big is still a task, make SMART goals. Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time bound. The beauty of your story is that it will continue to evolve and you will evolve with it.
